Bridge Design - Introduction - Beam Detail

The beam detail shown in the drawing provide information of the post tension cable profile.

The depth of the beam for the 31 m span bridge is about 1.5m. Three cable of 11 strands are used for this particular beam.

Bridge Design - Introduction - Cross Section

The above diagrams shows a typical bridge cross section. The cross section indicates 6 precast beams supporting a deck slab. The bridge is using a cantilever abutment

Bridge Design - Introduction - Plan View

The bridge plan view provide information of the bridge length and width. The above diagram also show a small piece of slab called 'transition slab' located on both sides of the bridge end . The river bank on the upstream and downstream of the bridge are protected. The protected lenght is around 10m but the actual lenth depend on the drainage calculation

Bridge Design - Introduction - Elevation

The diagram shows a 31m bridge crossing a small river. The bridge is constructed using precast beams with reinforced concrete deck.

Basic parts of bridge can be easily identified via the above diagram. The main components are af follows:
[1] bridge deck
[2] beam
[3] abutments
[4] wingwall
[5] piles
